How ePay works

The Multibase ePay Payment Gateway allows businesses to accept secure credit card payments over the Internet, with a minimum of time and effort.

Accepting online payments

ePay provides real-time credit card clearance through Australia’s own Camtech merchant server system. The transaction is completed with no storage of credit card details and no manual processing.

Safe and easy

Many customers see Internet payments as safer than traditional credit card handling, because there is no manual handling of credit card details.

Multibase is a certified provider of the Camtech merchant server clearance gateway solution. We have packaged it in a way that all the difficult, expensive and time-consuming aspects of building an ecommerce system are done for you.

How the ePay system works

The ePay system receives transaction details from your customer’s order via an interface provided by your web site. Your customer’s payment details are then forwarded via an encrypted link to the Camtech payment gateway for processing. The Camtech payment gateway interfaces with your nominated clearing bank to clear the transaction.

Link to the bank

The Camtech payment gateway accepts credit card details from the ePay Payment Gateway, converts them to the Australian Banking Standard 2805F (I 8583) and forwards them to the bank for processing.

The link to the banking network is a dedicated private connection that is inaccessible by Internet users.

Unlike some providers which lock the merchant into one bank, ePay through Camtech can clear payments through all the “big 4” and major regional Australian banks. This means a choice of bank for the merchant, and the ability to change banks with no web site changes.

Approval of the transaction

Once the transaction has been approved, an encrypted response consisting of the transaction details and bank authorisation code is sent back to the Camtech payment gateway, which logs the transaction and sends the result back to the ePay Payment Gateway. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is used to encrypt the details between the customer’s web browser and the ePay Payment Gateway.

Fastest real-time payment processing

The Camtech system is the fastest real-time payment processing service in Australia, with a typical transaction for a back -end solution taking between 3 to 6 seconds to complete (depending on the the way that the gateway is integrated).

Transaction reporting

A response to the transaction is delivered within the normal range of 6 to 15 seconds. ePay also provides:

  • secure online access to your transaction reports, which are generated in real time (credit card numbers are not stored)
  • the ability to query the transaction database for the results of a particular transactions, using ePay’s API
  • the ability to generate a CSV file of reports for particular criteria e.g. settlement date, which can be opened as a spreadsheet.

Security

Ensuring that your customers are confident about the security of their credit card details is one of the main obstacles facing the implementation of a successful ebusiness solution.

ePay is based on the Camtech Merchant Server. We have wrapped the Merchant Server in our own certified application that generates a unique identifier, logs your incoming transaction (without saving any credit card details), interfaces with the banking system via the secure Camtech gateway, logs the result and returns the result of the transaction to your shopping cart application.

This ensures that you are providing your customers with the most robust and secure clearance system of online payments available in Australia today. And most important of all your customers are provided with a level of encrypted security and confidence that only comes from operating with the ePay.

The payment gateway also uses enhanced security features such as digital envelopes and content keys.

User friendly help

Being able to take full advantage of the functionality provided by the ePay Payment Gateway is a key to the success of your online venture. Multibase ensures that support and training is readily available for you and your developers so that any problem can potentially be solved at the initial breakdown point. If required Multibase can also provide backup technical assistance.
